Welcome to the
Barony of Terra Pomaria!

The Barony of Terra Pomaria is the local branch (Lincoln, Marion, & Polk Counties, Oregon) of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international non-profit educational organization devoted to the research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat, culture; and employing knowledge of history to enrich the lives of participants through events, demonstrations, and other educational presentations and activities.

Members of the SCA do their own research on topics such as clothing, jewelry, armor ad weaponry, food, music and dance, and many other aspects of life as it was lived in an earlier time.

We welcome participants from all backgrounds, regardless of their ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious beliefs, or abilities. Respect, kindness and dignity shall be rendered to all, treating another as they wish to be treated, rather than as we wish ourselves to be treated.

New to the SCA?

Come Experience the Middle Ages

Prepare to step into a world of chivalry, art, and camaraderie – a world shared by over 30,000 others who seek the same dream you do.

Armored knights are locked in combat on the list field, artisans under brightly-colored pavilions are painting illuminated manuscripts, and friends nearby put the finishing touches on their newest gowns, all with Renaissance music playing softly in the background.

What is the SCA?

The SCA was incorporated in 1968 as a 501(c)3, not-for-profit educational organization. It is part of the “living history” movement, which means that SCA members have a “hands-on” approach to history, engaging in activities that help them to explore the culture, arts, and sciences of ages past.

While the emphasis was originally on Western Europe, participants are now encouraged to research and re-create pre-17th century societies around the world.

A great way to get involved is to attend one of our local gatherings. Ceilidh is an opportunity for the members of the Barony to sing, dance, make merry, share arts and sciences projects, enjoy good food, drink, dancing, and fellowship. It’s a wonderful, low-key opportunity for newcomers to check out the SCA. For further information please contact the Baronial Chatelaine or see our Activities & Events page.

Words from His Excellency, Thegn Clovis,

Baronial Chairs

Hello, my friends, I have missed you all. It was wonderful seeing many of you at our virtual Ceilidh on Zoom last Monday. It was especially nice to see Terra Pomarians I have not seen in many years. If you are one of those who struggle with modern technology, please reach out before next month’s Ceilidh we will help you get set up or you may use a “call in number” to connect in.

I am excited to let the rest of our Barony know that we, with careful planning, held court at our virtual Ceilidh. Iskander ibn Ji’lid (Alex) was awarded the “Silver Apple” for his outstanding and continuous service to the barony. Iskander was the face of the Barony at last summer’s demo at Canterbury. At that demo and others throughout the year he proved himself worthy of high honor for a Terra Pomarian that is so young.

On to some more difficult news. Last week we had a virtual meeting with our Seneschal, Zulaikha, our event steward for Bar Gemels, Duvessa du Movilla, and our event steward for Long and Short of It, Reina Thunderhand. The decision was made to cancel these events for 2020. It is our hope that their bids will be renewed for 2021. (It will be discussed with the financial counsel.) We have not given up hope of having an event this year, and will be looking for opportunities to gather when we are able. We will however proceed with the health and safety of the Barony foremost in mind. Thank you to everyone who has put planning and work into these events; your work is not forgotten

All our love, Thegn Clovis & Baronesa Ximena
