A&S Scribal Fun

The new Thegn and Baroness of Terra Pomaria, Their Excellencies Stefan de Kilpatrick and Anna Elizabeth von Engleburg, are in need of scribal designs!

On October 29th there is a class to prepare for this. Join some of Terra Pomaria’s finest Scribes, HL Fortune verch Thomas, HL Gwyneth Blackthorne, and HL Jenara Windswift (Summits) as they discuss scribal for the new Baronial reign. Salem Library @ 1:30pm.

Details can be found here: https://fb.me/e/3fptRyY15

KNOW ALL, YOU DON’T NEED TO ATTEND THE CLASS TO CONTRIBUTE! Below is some information on what Their Excellencies would like for themes, info on Their personas, and resources for inspiration. As well as resources on beginning scribal designing.

Be inspired! Sketch till your heart’s content! Scan and email images of your designs to our Scribe, Wystan Albryght, at TerraPomaria.Scribe@AnTir.org Please be sure to include a completed SCA Release of Creative contribution form. This release form allows us to add to, adjust, and reproduce your work (things like sizing adjustments, using a design for a different type of award, adding calligraphy, etc.). You can submit one form for each work or select all types of art and in the description state something to the effect of all submissions to Terra Pomaria SCA.

DESIGNS NEEDED:
Terra Pomaria uses both Charters (photocopies of original art that are then uniquely painted/signed/sealed before being awarded) and Originals (scrolls and scroll like items that are custom created for an award).

A description of each award can be found on TP’s Awards page. All designs are welcome!

PERSONA FOCUS:
Stefan:
13th century, Scotland. Rebellious Joyful.
Submitted device – Blue sky, green field, winged pig pascuant.
Happy Sow (not boarish pig), could have apple in its mouth. As an enhancement if that’s too simple, add 3 wheat sheaves on the blue.
RoA for Stefan – https://op.antirheralds.org/index.php?who=9780

Anna:
14th century, Swiss/Germanic. Shifting focus as she learns more about her heritage. Magical.
All types of Unicorns, Horses from around the world, Blue waves/rays (rayonny), all riding arts, equestrian activities and armor.
RoA for Anna – https://rollofarms.antirheralds.org/display.php?id=1142

THEMES:
Their Excellencies would like a focus on these Lands with a theme of: Horses, Unicorns, Happy Flying Sows with Apples in Their Mouths, Farm Animals, and Feasting.

Remember, words like “pig” and “horse” have other translations depending on the country, language, time frame you are searching within. Especially try the Latin or Greek translations.

RESOURCES:
An Tir’s College of Scribes has an amazing website with many instructions, resources, and videos. There are pictures of examples on both Charters and the Gallery. As well as, links to galleries of other kingdoms and museum collections under the Resource Sites tab.

The Booke of Traceable Heraldic Art has all you need on what medieval animals, positions, and more.

There are a couple handbook items that apply to Baronial scribal work as well: An Tir’s handbook on Charter Design and Charter & Scroll Design in KoAT.

Searching images, digitized manuscripts from museums, and line art, are your friends.

We are excited to see what you come up with!

Please reach out to HL Fortune verch Thomas – Court Coordinator for S&A, HL Wystan Albryght – Scribe for BoTP, or the Baronial FB Group with any questions.
